Every since I’ve started breast feeding, I have massive cravings for coffee and cacao! Clearly, I need energy and my body is screaming out for protein! But gorging myself on chocolate isn’t particularly nutritious or helpful for building the milk supply so I’ve come up with these super healthy protein balls to give me the “mumergy” I need! The best part is that they taste ah-maaaaaazing! Really chocolately, malty and a bit gooey. Heaven!
8 medjool dates, pitted
3 tbs coconut oil
2 tbs almond butter
3 tbs cacao
1 tbs cacao nibs
2 tbs LSA
2 tbs protein powder*
1/4 tsp vanilla powder
1 tbs coconut flakes
1 tbs chia seeds
Chia, coconut flakes and goji berries for rolling
It only took me about 5-10 minutes to whip them up with Archie in a sling so they’re really easy. I just chucked everything in a food processor, rolled them up in balls and that’s it! Daz reckons they’re the best protein balls he’s tasted so I thought I’d share the recipe for anyone who wants a delicious and healthy snack. Enjoy!
Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blitz until mixed thoroughly. If the mixture seems a bit dry, add some coconut oil or almond butter. If it seems too wet, add a dry ingredient like LSA.
Scoop the mixture into a bowl and roll balls between both hands (about a heaped tablespoon for each).
Mix the chia, coconut flakes and goji berries together and place them on a plate. Roll the balls in the mixture.
Place the balls in a container and put them in the fridge for at least an hour to set. Enjoy!!!
*I use “Amazonia RAW fermented paleo protein” in vanilla and lucuma flavour.
